What's it like?
James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is almost here! We finally have a release date, soundtrack, and teaser trailer! The new Superman movie is set to release on July 11, 2025, and is being directed by James Gunn, who has recently left Marvel after directing their Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The fact that he made the Guardians movies has many fans hyped for Superman and Gunn’s subsequent DC Universe, and the new developments only increase that enthusiasm.
The cast of Superman includes David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane). Surprisingly, the lead actor, David Corenswet is not a very well-known actor. He is primarily known for Pearl (2022), We Own This City (2022), The Politician (2019-2020), and Look Both Ways (2022). He also has minor roles in some other popular movies, such as Twisters (2024), where he played Scott. Nicholas Hoult is a little more popular, starring in Fox’s X-Men movies as Hank/Beast, and Mad Max: Fury Road as Nux. Finally, Rachel Brosnahan is known for House of Cards (2013-2015), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023), Patriots Day (2016), and The Finest Hours (2016).
The music for Superman is composed by John Murphy, which is not surprising, considering he worked with James Gunn on The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He is also known for his work on X-Men, Days of Future Past alongside John Ottoman, and DC’s The Suicide Squad. The Trailer theme he presents is a slow, ambient version of the original John Williams Superman theme that many audiences know and love.
The movie seems to intend to pack a lot into this one movie. The characters consist of the traditional Clark Kent/Superman, Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane. However, the movie also includes many other characters, such as Hawkgirl (Isebel Merced), Guy Gardener/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Supergirl (Milly Alcock), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Krypto/Super Dog.
